Here lies a memorial to the U.S.S Peary (DD-226), a US Clemson Class destroyer sunk in Darwin Harbour by Japanese Aircraft on February 19th, 1942. 80 of her crew were killed and a further 13 were injured in the attack and their names are displayed on a plaque next to the ship's 4-inch bow gun, which points to her final reasting place in Darwin Harbor.
