Now Zia Fertilizer Factory is up for being renamed Ashuganj Fertilizer Factory after the name of the location instead of the slain president and BNP founder.

Industries Minister Dilip Barua Wednesday gave the hint at renaming the factory while talking to reporters at the Circuit House here on his return from Tripura.

He said there is no registration as Ashuganj Zia Fertilizer Factory rather the factory began its journey bearing the name Ashuganj Fertilizer Factory.

“The factory will be renamed as Ashuganj Fertilizer Factory,” Dilip said.

He informed that a project will be taken up to modernize the factory at an estimated cost of Tk 650 crore.

About the industries and trade fair in Tripura, the Minister said that the Bangladeshi stalls had sales beyond their expectations as Tripura is a big market for Bangladeshi products.

Answering to a question, he said that “Islami Chhatra Shibir cadres are trying to destabilize the government.” He referred to Tuesday’s incident at Rajshahi University that left one Chhatra League activist dead.

Deputy Commissioner Haiyul Kaiyum, Additional Deputy Commissioner Abdul Karim, AL leader Amanul Haque Sentu and JSD leader Adv. Akhter Hossain Syed were present, among others.
