Russia / Moscow / Moscow / ulitsa Petrovka, 28 c.11
1800s construction, Russian Orthodox Church, 17th century construction, object of cultural heritage of federal importance (Russia), Orthodox church

Church of the Icon of the Virgin Mother of Bogolyubovo with its five black domes, was rebuilt by the Naryshkin family in 1684-1685 to commemorate the murders of Peter the Great's two uncles who are buried there. Over the next one hundred years sixteen other relatives of Peter the Great were buried in this church, and a mausoleum was built on the southwest corner of the site.

The church stands on the site of a former belltower of the Church of Intercession. The two story cubic church with five slender blind drums topped with black shingled cupola has an adjoining one story refectory, standing on a low basement. Intricate white stone platbands surround the windows and sets of three pilasters decorate the corners. The church was the last in the monastery to close in 1929 and still has not been returned to the Russian Orthodox Church.
