    The old name of Ambur is Snekapuri. Sneka in Sanskrit means "Love" (in tamil Anbu). Puri can be translated as a village (in tamil Oor). The tamil name thus translates as Anbu-oor which has metamorphized as Aambur.

    I am sorry. It is not "Snekapuri" but "Snehapuri". Sneha means Love or Anbu;

    The river's name is Gadana which doesn't have any political connection. The name that used to be written on a road bridge crossing the river, used to read "Karunai aaru". The river was existing even before Karunanidhi was born; it is existing even today; it will exist in the years to come too, unless any catastrophe strikes it, as it happened in the case of Saraswati river.

    I hail from Kizha ambur. I studied in Meenakshi Middle school and subsequently in Paramakalyani Hi school. I left the village for my higher studies to IIT, Varanasi in 1981 and i am living Bangalore now. I keep going to the village every now and then. The village is still beautiful with the same old charm, kind people, superb greenaries and green environment. However i feel sad seeing Gadana river without any sand. The river has lost its charm. I still remember how we used to play in the sand of the river, Never mind. The place is still beautiful.
