power station, closed
550 MW electric generating plant burning coal. This was Oregon's only coal-fired power plant, approved in 1975 just before pollution control requirements of the Clean Air Act came into effect. It was one of the few coal plants in the Western USA without modern pollution controls, and contributed significantly to haze and acid rain in the Columbia Gorge area.
In October 2020, Portland General Electric announced that the coal plant has been permanently closed and was demolished in 2022, ending Oregon's legacy of coal-fired power generation
