The history of company counts 110 years of successful activity and originates from creation in the administration AO “electrical illumination of 1886 ” of cable- transformer division for the building and the operation of electrical networks during April 1897. Up to the moment of creating the Moscow association of state electrical stations (МОГЭС), basic tasks of which became the development of power stations and the creation of branched electrical networks. It has seven net regions. The number of personnel are about 500.It has 3,300 km of cable lines, 500 km of airlines, 200 distributive and more than 3,000 transformer substations.

On April 1, 2005 on the base of the branch of joint stock company “Mosenergo (Moscow Regional Administration of Power System Management)” of Moscow cable system(MKC) it was named as “The Moscow City Electronetwork Company” (МГЭсК) as a joint stock company.

In the maintenance of МГЭсК, there are about 60,000 km of cable lines, more than 14,000 transformer substations, about 2,000 distributive substations, in 21 territorial region around entire city of Moscow.
