The small settlement of Ross River lies 87 km east of Alice Springs on the Ross Highway. The area was originally settled in 1876, at that time the nearest railhead was at Oodnadatta over 600 km away.
Ross River Resort reopened in 2006 after several years closed to the public. The resort consists of a homestead circa 1898. The homestead includes a licenced restaraunt and bar, 29 Log cabins and both powered and unpowered campsites.
