Home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Hall opened in 1919. The Symphony remained there until 1939 when financial problems forced it to move elsewhere. From 1941 to 1951, the hall hosted some of the biggest names in jazz and was known as the Paradise Theater. Saved from demolition in 1970, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, and slowly restored. The orchestra moved back from Ford Auditorium in 1989 and a major addition (funded primarily by the Fisher family) was completed in 2003.
