 office building, apartment building

308-foot, 27-story modernist residential building completed in 1970 as an office building. Designed by Fred Safran for the Bank of New York. It was converted to apartments in 2003, operated by the Moinian Group. The exterior above the white stone base was completely renovated in 2014-15, replacing the old white and brown brick. The west and east elevations are divided into five wide bays, while the south has six wide bays, and the north has three wide bays and one narrow one (due to the overlap of the adjoining Frasch Building). Above the 12th floor, there are 1-bay setbacks at the west, north and east sides. The remainder of the building, now four bays per side, rises straight up to the 26th floor, where there is another setback, and the rooftop mechanical equipment. The ground floor on the north side is occupied by Clinton Hall Beer Garden, with a large outdoor seating area at the north side of the lot.
