Cormorant, a village in sections 35 and 36, was first settled in 1876, with a country post office called Cormorant Mills, 1878-81, then changed to Cormorant and discontinued in 1933. A grist mill, built in 1880, was by 1890 a first-class roller flouring mill. The village also had a sawmill run by water power, two hotels, and a school.
