A small coral reef island in the mouth of Samaná Bay. The only deep water channel into the bay is between Cayo Levantado and the peninsula to the north, making a choke point that caused this to be one of the most strategically important points on the island for hundreds of years. The western two-thirds of the island are home to a private resort, but the rest is open to the public and a popular tourist destination.
