office building, skyscraper, 1970_construction, International style architecture

525-foot, 41-story International-style office building completed in 1970. Designed by Kahn & Jacobs, it is clad in a curtain wall of black metal and dark-tinted glass. The ground floor is divided into four bays on 7th Avenue, with a recessed entrance in the 2nd bay from the south that has two revolving doors and two traditional glass doors, covered by a metal-and-glass canopy; the other three bays have storefronts. The north facade on 53rd Street and west facade on Broadway are lined with plate-glass storefronts, with a parking garage exit at the south end of the west facade. There is a small, 2-story extension clad in dark-grey brick to the south side, with the main entrance to the underground parking garage off 52nd Street.

On the west, north, and east elevations, the building sets back above the 13th floor at the corners, creating three narrow, square wings extending up to the main roof line. Above the setback there is a double-height mechanical floor, recessed back under the floors above, with black steel columns extending to support the upper floors. The curtain wall from the base continues on the upper floors on the west, north, and east facades. There is another double-height mechanical level at the top, with black metal vents in place of glass.

The south facade is clad in dark-grey brick, with a narrow section extending south of the main tower bulk; this section is windowless and contains the building core. At the west and east ends of the south facade there are bands of four window panes up to the 14th-floor setback.

The ground floor is occupied by 810 Deli & Cafe, a Chase Bank branch, and a Bank of America branch.
