Considered a holy tank, it is surrounded by numerous temples, big and small. Thousands of people take dip in the lake everyday.About 5-ft sludge is lying beneath the water. The dredging work, using churning technology (mixing water with sludge) began but faulty technique led to more water being pumped out by machines. "Only 40% sludge have been removed, the rest needs manual excavation. "According to estimate, about one lakh cubic metre sludge would be excavated from the water-body,"
