The company town of the Pullman Palace Car Company: row-houses and community buildings, where all Pullman factory employees had to live and spend their scrip. Built by George S. Pullman as "the ideal town," but ultimately failed as a utopian experiment. The birthplace of the labor movement in America. Still a vibrant Chicago neighborhood, undergoing a renaissance as an Illinois State Historic Site; designated a city, state and federal Historic Landmark District.
