Formerly the Illinois Central Railroad's ARCS satellite shop, this site is now the Mechanical Department's heavy repair facility for the Metra Electric District (MED) Commuter Rail fleet and home-base to MED Engineering Department employees. The headquarters of famed Labor Union Representatives Tom Ceska (SMWIA) and Mike Schimanski (IBEW) prior to their retirement from the Rail Industry, Metra KYD is likely best known to house the high-tech ARCS/Communication Technicians who provide their expertise to maintain and repair all equipment and appurtenances related to the world's first Automatic Revenue Collection System (ARCS) and Metra's Communication network.
