Former station stop on the elevated Ninth Avenue Line, 155th Street was the northern terminus of the line until 1918, when the line was extended over the Harlem River to join the IRT Jerome Avenue Line (4) just north of Yankee Stadium. After the elevated line closed in 1940, it was dismantled in Manhattan up to this point. The section from 155th Street over the Putnam Bridge to the Jerome Avenue line was kept as the Polo Grounds Shuttle until it closed in 1958. It is pictured as the Polo Grounds shuttle terminus, with the former Putnam Bridge in the background.
