Mirzaganj Upazila (Patuakhali district) with an area of 175.53 sq km, is bounded by Bakerganj upazila on the north, Barguna sadar upazila on the south, the Rajganj river and Patuakhali sadar upazila on the east, Betagi upazila on the west. Main rivers are the Rajganj, Chankhali, Srimanta, Subidkhali and Paira.

The location of Mirzaganj town is 22.3592495N 90.2149683E. Mirzaganj (Town) consists of 5 mouzas with an area of 17.61 sq km. It has a population of 17663; male 52.46%, female 47.54%. The density of population is 1003 per sq km. The town has one dakbungalow.

Mirzaganj thana was established in 1812 and was turned into an upazila in 1983. It consists of 6 union parishads, 68 mouzas and 72 villages.

Archaeological heritage and relics: Single domed Shahi Mosque at Masjidbaria (1710s).

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census: Population 110763; male 50.06%, female 49.94%; Muslim 93%, Hindu 6.8%, others 0.2%.

Land use: Cultivable land 12235 hectare, fallow land 111 hectares; single crop 32.49%, double crop 48.7% and triple crop land 18.81%. Cultivable land under irrigation 78%.

Land control: Among the peasants, 26% are landless, 27% marginal, 26.1% small, 14.93% intermediate and 5.97% rich; cultivable land per head 0.053 hectare.
