This location has had numerous restaurant and nightclub tenants. The Distrikt, the most recent, closed on September 16, 2012. A fitness and training facility is slated to open in this building in December 2012.

The building was constructed in 1974 and opened as the Schnitzel Haus restaurant. It was the dream of Maria and Joe Albert, an immigrant couple from Hungary and Romania. The hall in the back of the building was rented out to groups for private functions. They gained a reputation for welcoming young people and hosting live music. They sold the building in the 1980s and it changed hands several times, operating under names like Hamilton Street Café and the Green Appple Coffee Shop, while the hall had been renamed Club Soda and Antilles, among others.

The nightclub era began in 1988 as The Venue, when the building was renovated for use as a bar. Over the years it would change hands several times and become The Underground, Mertz Bar & Grill, The State, and finally The Distrikt. It had a long established reputation as a venue for live bands.
