In the late 1960s a local business man purchased all these houses at a time when the area was unfashionable and the buildings dilapidated. The complex was made over into a twee shopping precinct of "Ye Oldes Worlde Shoppes". This did help Parnell's fortunes and much of the area's ongoing popularity can be directly traced to these naive & twee shops.
