pier, ruins
Constructed to support regular passenger ferry service to and from Sheepshead Bay, it was relegated to stroller and fishermen use when ferry service was terminated in the early 70's. Over the last decade, an aggressive, ongoing project to widen the bayfront beach in concert with the dredging of the Jamaica Bay Channel by the Corps of Engineers has resulted in a now almost land-locked dock...much to the dismay of this generation's "snapper" fishing enthusiasts.
