This building formerly housed H-E-B Fountainview—the first full-line H-E-B supermarket in Houston. Before the H-E-B location opened in January of 2001, all H-E-Bs in Houston were small-format "H-E-B Pantry" stores. H-E-B further expanded into Houston over the ensuing decade, and soon the company had one of the largest market shares among grocery chains operating in Houston. The tight space led to a rather awkwardly-shaped store, but the store maintained its popularity all the way up until February 2015 when it shuttered for an even larger (and more traditionally laid out) store up the road.
