Christ Church Anglican (Saskatoon)

Canada / Saskatchewan / Saskatoon

Christ Church is built on land that was donated to the congregation by the real estate firm of Ashworth and Holmes. Members of the congregation hauled granite rocks from the riverbank and built a one metre thick foundation for the church. Due to a lack of funds needed to complete the church, a roof was built over the foundation and services were held in the basement. The congregation worshipped in their basement for nearly fifty years in what was affectionately called “The Dugout on the Hill”.

The church was finally completed in 1954 and although the Norman Tower planned for, the church was never built, it still has the look of a "real" English church. It is also known as the "Soldier's Church" as the colours of the 5th Battalion and the Saskatoon Light Infantry are located here. The church was also given 30 residential lots by Ashworth and Holmes that were sold off by the congregation whenever they found themselves in financial trouble.

Today Christ Church is known for its Concerts Series which offer local musicians a venue to show off their great talent.
