Alvin is a city in Brazoria County, Texas within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown Metropolitan Area. Incorporated in 1893, the city's population was 24,236 as of the 2010 Census.

First settled in the mid-1800s, Alvin was originally named "Morgan" by the town's residents in honor of the settlement's original resident, Santa Fe Railroad employee Alvin Morgan. However, upon discovering that the name Morgan had been taken, the town named itself "Alvin" .

Students in Alvin attend schools in the Alvin Independent School District.

The city's best known former resident is Hall of Fame baseball player Nolan Ryan, who grew up in Alvin and attended Alvin High school.
