Tuni is the famous name of a tree that is grown naturally in this hilly slopes and Dara meaning the Hill on which Tuni Tree grows, thus the name formed as Tuni Tree Hill, that is "Tuni Dara" in local language by the inhabitants of Shelpu Hills, Rolak Basti/Village, 6th Mile Forest Basti, Latpanchar Cinchona Plantation Village, Lanku Valley Village, Bara Sittong village, Namthing Lake, Tham Dara, Sittong Cinchona Plantation Village, Ghale Tar village, Shebje Basti, Mana Village, Toryok Basti, Mamring basti, Bagh Gaura, Kandung Village, Kunti Village, Karmat Village and Kali Jhora Bazaar.
