Swede Tunnel is located on BNSF Railway's mainline between Seattle and the Midwest, and is also used by Amtrak's Empire Builder passenger train. The tunnel was constructed by the Great Northern Railway, and it is one of three that were built as part of the Chumstick Cutoff, which opened on October 7, 1928.
