Veerle

 village, draw only border

Veerle is a village in the Belgian province of Antwerp and a sub-municipality of Laakdal (arrondissement of Turnhout). Veerle was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1977.
The oldest spelling of the village name is Verle. Some variations that crop up in history are Vierle and Veirle. Today the local dialect is called Vejel.

Le is derived from the Germanic lauha and occurs in many place names as loo (or lo). It was an open landscape with bushes. Veer is said to be derived from vair, which means to sail. Thus Veerle means: a lo overgrown with working ferns.
