bay, salt lake

North Creek is not really a creek, but a shallow salt-water bay nestled in the north end of Grand Turk in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Approximately two miles in length, it effectively divides the top third of the island into eastern and western peninsulas. The east half is home to Corktree Beach and Little Bluff Point along the coast, and the community of North Wells on the interior. The west half is known by tourists as the site of Grand Turk's Lighthouse Park, and is the location of the main campus of Turks and Caicos Community College.
North Creek opens onto the Atlantic Ocean by way of a narrow channel which then widens once inside the island. Its banks are predominantly covered with mangrove trees. The bay serves as a nursery for many species of reef fish, and is home to a variety of birds and other wildlife.
