Ascension Bay, part of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere protected nature reserve - and is home to one of the ancient Maya's primary food sources, the bounty of the Caribbean sea. This bay is over 12 square miles of shallow flats and mangrove islands in the Quintana Roo province of Mexico, and has been referred to as "Pesca Maya" since ancient times. Home to many preferred species of game fish, such as bonefish, tarpon, and huge permits, this bay has become world famous with game and fly fisherman for its year-round fish populations.
