Mun Rae was the grandfather of Mun Ik-jom, Korean emissary to the Yuan court in China and the first planter of cotton in Korea. While in China, Mun's grandson was impressed with the soft cotton clothes of the people and stole some of the valuable cotton seeds, which he brought back to Korea hidden in his cane. The crop quickly caught on in S. Chunchong province, where it is still grown to this day. Mun Rae is credited with learning to spin the cotton his grandson planted.
