This recently-built interchange marks the beginning of PA-576 (a.k.a. the Southern Beltway). Currently, the beltway ends at US-22, but it will eventually intersect I-79 near the Allegheny/Washington County line, and PA-43 (a.k.a. the Mon-Fayette Expressway) near Finleyville. The beltway is considered a critical piece of infrastructure, since it will provide a quick connection from industrial sites in the Monongahela River Valley to Pittsburgh International Airport. Residents in Pittsburgh's southern suburbs will benefit from the connection as well. It is expected that PA-576 will eventually achieve Interstate status, becoming I-576.
