Midwest Generation Waukegan Coal Station (Waukegan, Illinois) | power station, coal-fired

USA / Illinois / Waukegan / Waukegan, Illinois / E. Greenwood Ave., 401
 power station, coal-fired

Coal electric generation plant, previously owned by Commonwealth Edison until Midwest Generation acquired it in 1999.

It contains three coal-fired boilers with a nominal capacity of 805 megawatts, an electrostatic precipitator, low nitrogen oxide burners, four turbines, coal handling and processing units, and fly ash processing units.

From a duplicate tag: it releases far more dirt, CO2, and radioactive elements into the air than its Nuclear brother just to the north. The radioactive elements are in trace amounts in the dust that escapes any filters.
