Now part of the Lighthouse Beach Resort, Punt Vierkant Lighthouse was built to provide Northbound and Southbound ships with guidance and alert them to the shallows around the low Southwestern end of the island as they traveled to and from Kralendijk.
As the area around the lighthouse has become more and more developed and well lit, Punt Vierkant's role as an aid to navigation has diminished but it still remains operational.
