Prairie View is a city located approximately 45 miles northwest of Houston, Texas on U.S. Highway 290 in Waller County. Incorporated in 1969, the city's population was 4,410 as of the 2000 Census.
Prairie View was built on the site of Alta Vista, a plantation owned by the Kirby family, and is home to Prairie View A&M University, the state's second oldest institution of higher learning.
It is served by the Waller Independent School District.
