Assumption Church (Bansko)

It was probably built in XII-XIV century on the foundations of demolished the Ottoman invasion in the medieval church and extended around the middle of XVIII. The most valuable in it is a unique wood-carved fretwork ikonostas.Rezbata, relief and expressive. A major reason there are flowers, among which are fit stylized images of birds and mythical animals. Master carver is anonymous and the author of the icons is the founder of the Bansko School of Painting - Toma Vishanov. Unfortunately, these masterpieces of Renaissance art were irreparably damaged by a fire deliberately induced during the communist regime in Bulgaria on September 7, 1958.
