The Nagirny district or (Soborna) Hora forms the eastern part of the city centre. Situated on a hill with an elevation of about 70-100 m above the river, it includes Soborna (Cathedral) Square, the northern part of Gagarin Prospect, Dzerjinski St., and Gogol St. It was in this area that the city of Katerinoslav was founded. In 1787, Catherine the Second herself laid the foundation stone of the Cathedral of the Transfiguration in what is now Cathedral Square.
