Egypt / Kairo / Cairo /
city, capital city of state/province/region, capital city of country

Cairo (Coptic: Ⲕⲁϩⲓⲣⲏ, Arabic: القاهرة transliteration: Al-Qāhirah), which means "The Vanquisher" or "The Triumphant", is the capital city of Egypt. It is the largest city in Egypt and Africa's most populous city. While Al-Qahirah is the official name of the city, in Egyptian Arabic it commonly shares the dialect's name for the country, transliteration: Masr. Inhabitants of Cairo are called Masrawi rather than Masri within Egypt.

The city has a population of about 10,230,350 million people, while its metropolitan area has a population of about 20,439,541 million people. Cairo is the sixteenth most populous metropolitan area in the world. It is also the most populous metropolitan area in Africa.

The city was founded in 969 AD as the royal enclosure for the Fatimid caliphs, while the actual economic and administrative capital was in nearby Fustat. After Fustat was destroyed in 1168/1169 to prevent its capture by the Crusaders, the administrative capital of Egypt moved to Cairo, where it has remained ever since.

  • Cairo is very big very crowded very disorganized very noisy city.It should be dealt with as A Capital to Egypt.. Clean organized and comfortable to live in.HOW????. 1-Stop building new houses or whatever, and if a house or anything gets old and fall down..the place cleaned and a garden is made instead.2- Should encourage people of same job..say woodworks.. Ironworks..and similar professions to move to a separate community for each profession, far from each others and any other city with all the needed services(houses, market, mosque, clinic ,school, club for different sports, etc.)so that they need nothing from outside this new community. We have vast wide area in the desert where we should move to it and not jamming ourselves around the Nile in so unhealthy over crowded annoying suffocating cities.
  • You have a point there! Egypt has become and has always been such a monumentally crowded city and this is one of, if not the worst traits pertaining to it as a metropolitan city or a great capital of a greatly famous country like Egypt. The second point that must--I emphasize the word--be clarified and also put across so as to be dealt with lies within the sad fact that craftsmen or those whose crafts require gigantic effort and thus produce and make ear-splitting rocket and noise inside of the main streets and in front of anyone's house and this occurs with no regard for any human or inhabitant under the Egyptian sky. The government, asleep as we all know, ought to find a rapid panacea for anything thought of as outrageous transpiring in Egypt because we have TRULY had enough! Peace!
