Eptapyrgio (= the castle of seven towers) was built in the 9th cent. Many of its parts have been added later (from thw 15th cent. to modern times). It was used as a prison from the end of the 19th cent. to 1978. It is being restored by the Archaeological Service. Also known by its Turkish name "Yedi Kule"
