Sand Cut (ghost town)

USA / Florida / Canal Point / Conners Highway (US Routes 441/98)
 village, ghost town

Possibly the smallest village in Florida. It has DOT-erected signs, as well as a few local ones. Population is 7 or 8, depending on the time of year, according to the signs. It is also the self-proclaimed "speck capital of the world", either referring to the speckled perch that is in abundance in nearby Lake Okeechobee, or the tiny size of the town.

Sand Cut was once the location of a migratory labor camp for agricultural concerns in the area, but it was flooded in 1947. With the recent rebuilding and strengthening of the Herbert Hoover Dam by the Army Corps of Engineers, the properties bought from the remaining resident by the South Florida Water Management District. It appears no residents remain in Sand Cut as of 2009, according to current tax and property records.
