Alva is a census-designated place in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,182 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, Alva has a total area of 18.8 square miles.
Alva was founded by a Danish sea captain named Peter Nelson around 1900. Upon acquiring the land, he noticed many small white flowers, called Alva Flowers (sabatia brevifolia); hence the name of the town.
