  • The Government Victoria College is a Palakkad landmark. I was a student in GVC between 1985-87. At that time, there were already lots of good colleges in Kerala and even in Calicut university, but Victoria had a special place in everyones eyes. When we would go to inter-college festivals and so on, it was a matter of pride for us to tell our college name and we would invariably win lots of prizes. Victoria won the overall trophy in the calicut university arts festivals almost every year in the 1980s. The cricket matches in Victoria were amazing too, especially the Ranji trophy matches. I remember the match Narasimha Rao of Andhra took some 9 wickets in an innings and the match where Roger Binny hit an unbeaten century. Of course, later on, Kerala also started playing well. I have memories of those massive sixers hit by P G Sundar first for PMG School, then for Victoria, then for Kerala...
