Mangalajodi is an cultural and tourist village under Tangi block in Khordha district of Odisha at the northern edge of Chilika lake. It is a waterfowl heven and paradise of birds. Easy to get Mangalajodi by rail or road, a railway passenger halt (Mukteswar PH) is nearest to the Mangalajodi and nearest bus-stop is Tangi, 60kms from Bhubaneswar towards Berhampur through NH5.On an average 6,000 domestic tourists and 600 foreign nationals visit the village during the peak season (October to March). Over two lakhs birds come to the village during this time. Most houses in Mangalajodi, a village under Sundarpur panchayat of Khurda district, have a collection of foreign currency. The village is an eco-tourism hub of Chilika lagoon. Migratory birds coming to the expanse of wetlands in the village between October and March attract a large number of foreign tourists.
"Ten years ago, Mangalajodi was a nondescript village. The Chilika Development Authority (CDA) trained the villagers in hospitality, bird naming and boat operation. Now, it is a tourist hot spot,"
