Also known as Chilka Lake, this is Asia's largest natural brackish water lagoon. Its size varies from 1165 to 906 square kilometers, depending on the season.

The lake provides a natural harbour for Irawaddy Dolphins and contains over 225 fish species (anadromous and catadromous). It is also famous for various islands where Siberian birds visit during winter for 3 to 4 months. One can find more than 1000 species of birds in this season. It is renowned for its natural beauty and is one of the most famous tourist places of Orissa. Without visiting the Chilka Lake the tour of Orissa remains incomplete. It is one of the biggest Lake Of India.

    No doubt Chilika is one of the beautiful place but now a days it is getting polluted and numbers of birds migrating to chilika from far north are decreasing every due to poaching and the depth of the lake also decreasing year by year. the govt has to take some initiative to protect the beautiful place and specially people from orissa will be more helpful to protect the bird santuary.
