Chappathu is a small village located in the hearts of Idukki district, Kerala.
It was once famous for a small bridge built across the river Periyar, which always was always overflowed by water during the monsoon..
Nowadays it is more famous for the relay strike conducted by a non-political, non-communal and non-profit oriented group of people from various parts of Kerala for building a new dam across the river Periyar at Mullaperiyar. The existing Mullaperiyar dam which is more than a century old can collapse at any time.
Chappathu is also rich with various spices plantation like tea, coffe, cardomom, pepper etc.
