  • Those are flare stacks, one for the coke oven gas and the blue one for furnace gas.
  • The plant was owned by Granite City Steel until National Steel bought it in 1971. In 2003, National Steel sold the site to U.S. Steel as part of National Steel's bankruptcy procedure.
