The Music Library has two levels, and is located in the west wing of the Housewright Building. The library is two stories, and the main entrance is in Housewright's basement.

It opened in 1949 in the then-new Kuersteiner Building. By 1969, it had outgrown the space it had in Kuersteiner, and was moved into the basement of the Longmire Alumni Building. In 1979, it moved here into the then-newly constructed Housewright Building.
The library is named for Warren D. Allen, a celebrated organist and music critic and a professor of music history and literature at the School of Music from 1949 to 1956.
