In 1975, Labouchere Bay was established as the largest logging camp on Prince of Wales Island. Hundreds of miles of roads were built by US taxpayers into the then wilderness on Northern Prince of Wales Island. The camp was closed when the Ketchikan Pulp Mill closed in the late 1990s.

Comments

  • The tax payers did not pay for roads. The harvested trees payed for the roads which are a vital asset to those who now live on Prince of Wales.
  • Thorne Bay was the largest logging camp on Prince of Wales (1975). Robertson & Sons, Inc. built the logging roads out of Labouchere Bay, with Tuxecan Logging harvested the trees.
