The main building of the institute. The institute itself was founded in 1949 near Kiev in Ukraine. As there were two institutes of foreign languages in Kyiv and nearby, the latter was moved to Horlivka, which was a Soviet city of Russians. But all the staff and students were ethnic Ukrainians; so they felt uneasy among Russians in a new place. Nowadays all the double-periods in this institute are given in Russian and 98% of students speak Russian. Agter graduating the institute many specialists don`t stick to their profession and become managers/administrators and so on. But once this institute was the second in the Soviet Union among foreign languages institutes. The training programmes were sent from Moscow which was the USSR capital. Nowadays, the old effective programmes are not used and the stuff have to think out their own programmes. And the rulers of the institute are told to be corrupt and pumping money out of the Institute as well as driving out many of the institute`s devoted professors. The institute still manages to give a satisfactory level of education preparing teachers of foreign lanuages one of whom has written these lines.
