Loke Villa (George Town)

Malaysia / Pulau Pinang / Tanjong Tokong / George Town
 house, place with historical importance

This imposing mansion was built in 1924 for Alvin Loke, whose initials AWL are visible over the front door, and in other places in the house.

It was at one time known as Chatsworth House, and locals sometrimes called it the Butterfly Mansion, because of its layout. In some tourist brochures it is mistakenly called the Loke Mansion, which is the name of a building in Kuala Lumpur.

Comments

  • The name of this building is incorrect. It should be the Loke Villa (formerly known as Chatsworth House), NOT the Loke Mansion, which is in Kuala Lumpur. This mistake has been perpetuated by the Penang tourist brochures and is a serious error as it causes much confusion to tourists, local and foreign alike.
