Northline Commons (Houston, Texas)

USA / Texas / Houston / Houston, Texas

Northline Commons is a cluster of strip malls located in the Northline area of Houston, Texas, at the northeast corner of Interstate 45 and Crosstimbers Road. It was once the location of Northline Mall, opened in 1963 as one of Houston's first air-conditioned malls, originally anchored by Montgomery Ward (pre-dating the mall by two years), Joske's, and Britt's. Over the years, the mall fell victim to competition and changing demographics. The Joske's was replaced with a Magic Johnson movie theater after the money-losing department store was shuttered in the late 1980s, but the bankruptcy of Montgomery Ward sealed the mall's fate and the mall was closed in 2007.
