Originally intended to be the home of the university's Southland Conference football team, but the continued futility of the team and the decision to cancel the football program in 1985 has left the facility in limbo for many years. Mostly used for outside events, and was for several years the home of the local Highland Festival. Recent rumblings from the Administration has led to some speculation that the school may reinstate football at some future date, a prospect that would breathe renewed life into the facility.
